STARWEB EMAIL DISCUSSION GROUP (THE SEDG) (Sponsored by Flying Moose Technologies' Starweb Analyzer - http://www.accessv.com/~wulkan/fmt.html) VOL 5 - April 26, 1999 written by Paul Balsamo paulbalsamo@worldnet.att.net Continuing our discussion on Apostles from two weeks ago. APOSTLE STUFF PART 2 Apostle facts At-peace or not at-peace declaration happens before apostle conversion. If you want to convert at the world your at this turn, just order your fleet not at- peace.' If you 'really don't want converts there this turn, declare it at- peace. Each of the new converts that are "born" on your worlds from population growth DO get the 10% chance to convert normal pop that turn. Conversion happens AFTER the nasty infidels drop consumer goods on you. That's why it's so tough for them to unconvert anybody; on the same turn the CGs have unconverted a few pop, the rest of your followers and ships got a chance to show them the light again. Migrating population (normals or converts) get to their destination before combat that turn. If you're killing pop at the destination world, the Immigrant gets there just in time to be, killed. Migration happens before population growth. If the world you are leaving had already reached its pop limit, you will get a new pop there that turn. Migrating converts do not get a chance to convert at either the world they leave or the world they end up on. The program checks for apostle world capture (i.e. when you fully convert someone else's world) happens before migration. This is why you don't capture a zero pop world the turn you migrate a convert there. By the time he arrives, the program is past apostle world capture (You will capture the world on the following turn). You can't stop an apostle from getting points if you give him the world he is bombing that turn (Although he may be' glad to know you care). This is because the Jihad target owned it at the beginning of the turn. If an apostle gives you a fully converted world, you cannot give it to another apostle. The world will revert to the owner of the converts on it. In fact, any fully converted world will revert back to the Apostle one turn after the gift unless you deconvert some population with consumer goods. You cannot capture a fully converted world, no matter how many times you AH it, unless you unconvert at least one population (You will keep, driving it neutral and cost the apostle 5 points per turn though). You cannot make an apostle lose points by flying through his worlds and making him ambush you. Apostles don't lose points for ambushes. Combat tips - 200 ships at an enemy HW firing AP will create the situation the next turn where there is 20 population (and about 4 will be converts). The second turn after the fire order the world will fall to the Apostle by conversion despite the firefight in the air. (4-5 turns after the AP will be at full production again). - fighting over another Apostles HW is extremely dangerous for him - you have the ability to just capture his HW by conversion statistically related to the size of your invasion force. Similarly, you can lose it back the same way. - An apostle on the first waves of a war leaves a trail of converts that can act as spies forever (or until the opposition gets around to firing at them). -Similarly, migrating converts across a border acts as an enduring probe at the cost of only 1 industry use (1 ship). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions - Can anyone answer these? What if I migrate my convert to the other apostle's world? How can I capture a PBB'D world and get 10 points per turn? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- STARWEB EMAIL DISCUSSION GROUP - is now available on the web. http://www.accessv.com/~somnos/sedg.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence last week - how is that for low volume :-)! At present there are about 20 people in the Discussion group. Please feel free to invite others to join with us. All they have to do is send me a note to be added. I don't know if your all just sitting back and enjoying the SEDG or if you've just taken to heart the admonition to try and keep email spam to a minimum. Let me just reiterate that I would be happy to receive comments about articles and new articles for inclusion into the SEDG! If you want to just comment on an article on a more personal note you can email the author. At present I have been given a gift by John Shannonhouse of about 16 articles he has written over the last few years. Many Thanks John - your byline will be prominent when I use them. Would like people to send me a note on what they have seen the Black Box do. When I have an interesting list I will circulate it. Would anyone like to take a stab at how to Play the Scoring Pirate vs the Warcrazed unscoring Pirate? How about ways to play the Art Collector? Well, that's it for Volume 4. Don't be afraid to submit articles or suggestions. They don't have to be long winded. Address your correspondence to somnos@compuserve.com
